BANGOR, BEECH HILL POND and HERMON –
Florence P. Moores, beloved wife of the late Desmond L. Moores, passed away March 24, 2015. She was born June 9, 1929 in Orono, the fourth of five daughters to Chester S. and Ivy (Foster) Page.
Florence graduated from Limestone High School in 1947 and attended Husson College for two years until she went to work for the US Air Force at Dow Air Force Base in the supply section, then moved to the Purchasing Director as a buyer for 18 years. She was one of the last civilians working at Dow Air Force Base when it closed. She then went to work for the City of Bangor as a buyer in their Purchasing Department where she worked for 21 years, enjoying the work and people associated with it.
Florence married Desmond Moores on March 17, 1950 and they were happily married for 55 years until cancer took Des away. They had a happy and loving life together. They lived in Bangor and on Beech Hill Pond, where they built their home to which they retired in 1989.
Florence loved to travel, walk, snowmobile, skate, cross-country ski, swim, water ski, canoe and sail on their small Sun Fish sailboat. She also enjoyed doing needlework, ceramics, gardening, dancing and giving parties. She was a member and Past Matron of Tuscan Chapter #148 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Sunshine Club.
Florence is survived by brothers in law and sisters in law, Lloyd Moran, Jack (Baxter) Bates, Randy and Marie Moores, Ron and Gayle Moores and Loraine Moores; as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, along with many cousins and special friends, Dick and Peg Dunn. She was predeceased by her four sisters, Clara Nason, Hazel Bates, Eleanor Butcher and Esther Moran.
A memorial service will be held 1pm Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with the Rev. Grace Bartlett officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 12 noon until time of service Thursday. All are invited to share in conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the service. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
