Orrington - Floyd George Severance Sr., 77, passed peacefully at his home in Orrington, on July 13, 2023. He was born September 23, 1945, in Carroll, ME, the son of Artemus and Mary Severance.
On June 19, 1965, Floyd married his high school sweetheart, Linda, and together they raised three children, Floyd Jr., Paula, and Michael. Floyd joined the Navy and went on two tours in Vietnam. After returning home, he worked as a mailer at the Bangor Daily News for 45 years and volunteered for the Orrington Fire and Rescue Department for 30 years.
Floyd was always quick with a joke. He enjoyed bowling, collecting coins and baseball cards, watching Patriots and Red Sox games, a good meal, and traveling, the company of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and would call regularly to catch up with his son, Floyd Jr. in Phoenix. Floyd enjoyed staying in contact with his siblings, family and friends. He attended weekly cousin's dinners, yearly family reunions and hosted lobster feeds at his home for many years.
Floyd was predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda Severance; and daughter, Paula (Severance) Nicholson. He is survived by his sons, Michael Severance Sr. of Orrington, Floyd Severance Jr.
and his wife, Chuyita, of Phoenix; son-in-law, Dan Nicholson of Brewer; brother, Roger Severance and his wife, Monica, of Virginia; sisters, Marilyn Duverger and her husband, Richard, of Connecticut, and Joyce Costain of Florida; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends he held dear.
A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer.
