BANGOR & PEMBROKE - Forrestine “Forrie” (Clifford) Cotten, went home to be with her Lord and Savior August 25, 2019, after a long courageous battle against cancer. She was born November 27, 1954 in Eastport, daughter of Barbara (Calder) Clifford.
Forrie graduated from Sanford High School after attending Pembroke High School through the 11 grade.
She went on to receive her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and became a nationally certified Career/Rehabilitation Counselor. She worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor and Supervisor for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and was an adjunct professor at Eastern Maine Community College and Husson University.
She enlisted in the US Coast Guard and was based on both the east and west coast, retiring after 22 years as a Chief Petty Officer. During her enlistment, she received many awards, medals and Letters of Commendation. She was also selected as Coast Guard Reservist of Year twice.
Forever proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will miss all her special friends, staff at the Cancer Center and will miss the joy that brought her spending time at The Shepard’s God Parent Home.
Forrie leaves behind, daughter April Nichols and husband James and her son Adam Cotten; brothers, Wayne Clifford, Percy Clifford; grandchildren, Katelynn Kennison, Jessica Day, Kevin Morris and Kody Cotten. Great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Bush, Sophiea Smith, Anjel Morris, Neal Day and Edward Parsons. Many loving nieces and nephews. Forrie was predeceased by her mother Barbara Clifford of Pembroke, a great-grandson Brydon Bush, and sister-in-law Julie Clifford.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 10-11 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2019, at The Trudy Wilson Thrive Center of Crosspoint Church, 1476 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mick, officiating. All are welcome to share conversation and refreshments with the family immediately following the service, Friday. Interment with military honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Hammond Street, Bangor, following the reception.
