Hampden - Frances "Fran" L. (Morgan) Bowen, 87, died August 19, 2024. She was born in Winterport, Maine on January 22, 1937, daughter of Mervin and Grace (Holmes) Morgan.
Fran graduated salutatorian from Hampden Academy, class of 1955, where she also excelled in sports.
She married her first love, Donald Bowen of Hermon, whom she was married to for 45 years before his passing in 2000. Together they raised four children in Hermon and Hampden.
Fran or Frannie as she was known, was a stay-at-home mom until her children were all in school. Then she was employed by the Merritt Trust Co., Hampden, for most of her years, but retired from the trust department of Fleet Bank, Bangor, in 1994.
Fran was very active in the Hampden V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, having served as president and treasurer, and was also past president of district 4. In addition, she held several positions on the State level.
Surviving are four children, Mark, Michael (Sandra), Andrea (Robert), and John; six grandchildren, Chris and Cari Barney (and their mother who had a special place in Fran's heart), Matthew (Sarah) and MacKenzie Bowen, and Elena and Jennifer Freedman; three great grandchildren; companion, Gene Arsenault and his family; a sister-in-law, Gladys Johnsen and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; a brother, Melvin Morgan; two step siblings, Roberta Lane and Harrison Morgan; two brothers-in-law, Raymond and Stanley Bowen; and three sisters-in-law, Virginia Gordon, Rita Duplisea, and Carla Leavitt.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Hampden Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
