Frank Alfred Arsenault, 95, passed away on February 24, 2020 surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. In his words he said, “don’t worry I’m just going for a long walk and not coming back”. Frank was born on January 22, 1925 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, the son of Alfred and Elmira (Boyd) Arsenault.
Frank moved to Winterport to be with the love of his life, “Tess” who he met in Old Orchard Beach and was married to for 60 years.
A soft-spoken guy always with a glint in his eye and an infectious laugh, he loved going to the casino, gardening, fishing, boating, paint by numbers, going to the beach, having a scotch with his nephew, Gordon and just being around people. Growing up during the depression years, Frank lied about his age to enlist in the Navy at the age of 17. Frank was in WWII and specialized in under-water demolition in the European and the Pacific theatres, where he was when Japan surrendered. Frank received a bronze star medal and a combat “V” medal for service as an underwater demolition unit during operations against enemy forces at Yellow Beach, Pampeleonne Bay, France in August 15, 1944. Frank recently attended Honor Flight Maine’s trip to Washington DC to tour the national war monuments and be honored with other veterans.
Frank loved his family and football as an avid Patriots fan. Frank will be remembered as a beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, Heather, Nate and Mike Arsenault, Ted and wife, Jenn and Sarah Bonenfant who will miss him dearly.
Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife, Theresa “Tess” Arsenault; brother, Donald and sister, “Gigi”.
Frank is survived by his son, Francis Arsenault and wife, Clarissa, “Calrissa” Godinez of Stockton Springs; daughter, Roma (Arsenault) Bonenfant and husband, Ed of Winterport, afore mentioned grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, extended family and special cat “Schmucka” who is now up for adoption.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the people from St. Joseph’s Home Care and Hospice for their compassionate care and dedication to our family and loved one.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
