Frank Jordan

March 22, 1945 — March 25, 2023

VEAZIE- Frank Wesley Jordan, Jr., passed away at his home, March 25, 2023, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Frank was born March 22, 1945 in Sebring, FL. He is survived by his mother Marjory Fox Jordan; son Bill Jordan, daughter-in-law Linda, and grandchildren Ethan and Marnie, all of Arvada, CO; cousin Duncan Jordan and his wife Carol; and cousins Stuart “Pip” Hodgman, Joanne Clapp, Ione Kuhns, Gayle Bemis and Suzanne Trudel. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Wesley Jordan, Sr. and his son Robert Jordan.
Frank, the “Flash”, grew up in Veazie and graduated from Orono High School where he was active in sports. He attended college and spent three years serving our country with distinction in the U.S. Army. After working for 21 years at the St. Regis paper mill in Bucksport, Frank opened Legends Restaurant and Sports Bar in downtown Bangor in 1988, making it the popular hot spot to meet friends. After its closure in 1999, Frank parlayed his skills and connections into a sales career for W.S. Emerson in Brewer. He was passionate about his sports memorabilia collections, covering all major league sports and University of Maine hockey. His impressive collections eventually took over his whole house as he continually bought, sold and displayed his many interesting items. He also made considerable donations from his collections to various organizations for their fundraising efforts.
Throughout his work life and beyond, Frank was an active member of the community, giving back in many ways as a member of numerous organizations or starting events on his own. His philanthropy was heartwarming. He had a soft sport in his heart for little kids: he was there to play Santa in Veazie and organized huge Christmas parties at the Bangor Civic Center for the children of veterans, where Frank made sure all of them received quality gifts from Santa. He also took care of his favorite wait staff and friends, generously remembering them with special gifts during the holidays. Frank was a member of Mechanics Masonic Lodge #66 of Orono for 50 years, as well as a member of Anah Shrine, where he was one of the original Keystone Cops, entertaining kids of all ages in area parades. He was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Portland and Bangor, a longtime member of the B.P.O.E Elks Club, and a member of the Brewer Eagles Club and the Orono American Legion Post 84. His devotion to the University of Maine Men’s Ice Hockey team, however, was second to none. His allegiance was displayed in many ways: starting as an avid supporter and friend of Coach Shawn Walsh; dressing up as a referee as part of the “3 Blind Mice” squad at home games; building the kitchen and providing furnishings to the Alfond Family Lounge; donating “Blue”, the taxidermy Maine Black Bear, to the Alfond Family Lounge; bidding on senior jerseys at the annual hockey banquet; organizing numerous golf tournaments and fundraisers, including the annual Shawn Walsh Golf Tournament; supporting the student-athletes, coaches and staff of Men’s Ice Hockey, making sure they were embraced as part of the UMaine hockey family. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by players from the last 40 years, as well as their families and fans. For this, Frank was not only inducted into the University of Maine’s M Club as an Honorary M, but he was also recently made a member of the University’s Stillwater Society. Flash’s unwavering support continues, in his memory, with the Frank Jordan Memorial UMaine Hockey Golf Tournament to be held June 26, 2023. #blackbearstrong!
Frank loved to party, and his parties were legendary. One of his favorite sayings was, “I’m here for a good time, not for a long time.”
A graveside masonic service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm. Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie. Additionally, a celebration of Frank’s life will follow from 2-4 p.m. in the Alfond Family Lounge, Alfond Arena, University of Maine where there will be food, beverages and a chance to share memories.
