Fred Elmer Hardin
Orrington
Fred E. Hardin, 83, passed away January 2, 2014 at his home. He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., May 15, 1930, the son of Thomas and Gladis (Emerson) Hardin.
He graduated from Brewer High School Class of 1950. Fred served in the US Army during the Korean War as an Army engineer from 1952 to 1953. He was a member of the Orrington VFW Post #4527, and the Burton-Goode-Sargent Maine Chapter 1, Korean War Veterans Association, and he was an active member of the Maine Troop Greeters. Fred was also a long time active member of the First United Methodist Church, Orrington, and he was instrumental in organizing the Orrington Jaycees. In 1999, Fred retired from WVII TV, after 36 years of employment.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Carole (Clendenning) Hardin of Orrington; three children, Eugene Hardin and his wife, Judi of Orrington, Sandra Martin and her husband Bud of Bangor, Barbara Keezer and her husband Paul of Alton; nine grandchildren, Molly, Jaime, Kami, Mallori, Andrew, Ashley, Brady, Kash and Jade; seven great grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, Grace, Aaron, Avery, Conner, Carter and another due in April; three, sisters-in-law, Dawna Gray, Nancy Lorette and her husband Percy, and Bonnie Schuschereba and her husband George, brother-in-law, Gary Clendenning and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1 pm. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, 14 Center Dr. Orrington, with Pastor Harbour Mitchell III, officiating. Spring interment will be in Dean Hill Cemetery, Orrington. The family invites folks to share conversation and refreshments, at the church, following the service.
