Garth “Garby” A. DeBeck, 61, passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2023. He was born January 4, 1962, the youngest of six children to Gordon A. DeBeck Sr. and Gloria L. DeBeck Thompson. He grew up in Eddington, throughout his life he never strayed far from his childhood home.
Garth’s love of wood-working began at a very young age and continued throughout his life. As a child he built many cabins and treehouses to enjoy with his friends. This led to him becoming an incredibly skilled carpenter. He began working for boat companies building custom boats and his love of boats followed him to the end. Garth especially loved finish carpentry and his skills were incomparable. He never wanted to hear “That’s good enough”, he would tear it apart and start over. Perfection was the only acceptable result. Garth loved spending time in his garage working on his next project. Many people over the years were lucky enough to be blessed by a custom piece of work from him. He would add a unique touch to each piece that he would jokingly refer to as “patina”.
On August 24, 2013, Garth married the love of his life, Denise, after many years together. He was very proud of the life and home they built in Clifton and spoke of it often.
Garby lived life on his terms and it was filled with so much love, laughter and friendship. He made many friends throughout the years and touched many lives. All of which he had a story for. There wasn’t anywhere he went that he didn’t make a new friend. It was said many times that if he could write down all of his stories, it would make for one hell of a book.
He is survived by his loving wife Denise (Cohen) DeBeck; children, Angela Young and husband Chris and their son Kaden, Jennifer Dill and husband Marc and their sons Zachary and Isaac, Nicole Springer and husband Wes and their daughters Travia and Kaydence, sons, Thomas and Bradley DeBeck; brothers, Gordon DeBeck Jr. and wife Cindy, Gregg DeBeck Sr. and wife Terry, Garrett DeBeck and wife Juli-Ann; sister, Garnette Thompson and husband Randy; a brother by choice, Joe Savoy and wife Karen and their family; nieces and nephews, Gina Richardson and husband Tim and their son Phillip and his family, Gordon DeBeck III and wife Carrie and their daughter Haley and her family, Gregg DeBeck Jr. and wife Patty, Adam Thompson and his children Whitney, Waylon and Gunner, Nicole Blais and husband Mike and their children Evan and Brady Andrews; as well as special friend Kyle Senter, who he loved dearly. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Gayle Robertson and his in-laws John and Nancy Connick.
