Gary Briggs

Brewer: Gary R Briggs, 60, died October 12, at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 16,1963, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Allison and Louise (Whitney) Briggs.

Gary graduated from Brewer High School in 1981. He went on to University of Maine in Orono, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He graduated in 1985.
Following graduation, Gary joined the family business, Briggs, Inc. and its affiliate beverage distribution companies. He worked his way up, starting in the ware house, and eventually became Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Gary in 1988 did an internship with Gallo Wines in Los Angeles, CA. Gary was a member of the Maine Beer and Wine Wholesalers; was on the Board of Directors for the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers Association; a member for the National Beer Wholesalers Association; and was a member of the Maine Beer and Wine Wholesaler Association. The beverage companies were sold to Colonial Distributors in Waterville. After the sale to Colonial Distributors, Gary held several different jobs: Manager FedEx Home Delivery, Territory Manager Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Manager Dead River in Houlton Maine, Territory Manager Maine Beverage, Territory Manger CoreMark, Territory Manager Foster’s and Swishers Inc.
Gary was also very active in the community as well. Over the years he was on the Brewer Planning Board, Trustee on the Brewer Water District, and different positions at All Souls Church. He was a Mason, St Andrews Lodge #83, and a member of Anah Shrine. He was also the longtime member and a past president of his investment group, Penobscot Associates. He was also Vice President / Conductor of the Down East Scenic Railroad.
Gary’s greatest joy was his family. He was so proud of his children, Wilson, Brandon and Alyson and their families and accomplishments. He also had two step children Adam and Brandon Stanley.
He was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, colleague, and friend and will be missed more than words can say.

He is survived by his loving wife Tammy; his children, Wilson M. Briggs and wife, Paige of Leonardo, NJ and Brandon G. Briggs and wife, Courtney, of West Hartford, CT and Alyson R. Briggs and husband Seth of Hermon, ME. 5 grandchildren; Abel Stanley, Wilson Briggs, Oliver Stanley, Isabella Stanley and Avery Briggs. Brother, Bryan Briggs and his wife, Debbie and sister, Gayle Briggs and her husband, Joseph.; sister-in-law. Pamela Briggs; Nieces and nephews include Erik and Rena Briggs, Nate and Molly Briggs, Zach and Casey Briggs, Alex and Nicole Briggs, and Catie Briggs. He was predeceased by his parents, Allison and Louise Briggs; brother Daryl Briggs and his beloved dog, Zoey.
A celebration of life will be held at Penobscot Valley Country Club, Orono, Thursday October 19, 11 am to 2 pm. A private family burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
