Gary Huff

October 2, 1950 — October 25, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Alexander Huff, 74, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and great friend to many on October 25, 2024.

Gary, a long-time resident of Maine, was born in Chicago IL, on October 2, 1950, to Howard and Anne Huff, he was the second oldest of six children. Gary was the husband to Gay (Hipsky) Huff for 53 years of marriage. He was the proud and loving father to his three children, Jason Huff and wife Anna of ID, Rebecca Huff and partner Donald Carlow and Elizabeth (Huff) Orr and husband Nathan, and loving grandfather to Anthony Gonzales, Maryssa Gonzales, Alexander (Huff-Haskell) Puckette, Hannah “Jack” Orr, Jakob Huff, Jarrett Huff and Joel Huff and great-grandfather to Jaxson Gonzales who all love him very much.

During his childhood, Gary grew up in Willington CT, where he attended E.O Smith High School. Gary graduated from the University of Connecticut (Class of 1971) with an Associates of Science degree with a major in Animal Husbandry. Gary met his wife, Gay while in high school on a blind date. They married on July 31, 1971, at St. Phillip’s Church in Ashford, CT. Gary began farming at the age of 19 with seven milk cows on a rented farm. He later moved to a second rented farm in Coventry CT where he milked 25-30 cows. In 1978 Gary moved his wife Gay who was pregnant at the time, and 4-year-old son Jason to Exeter, Maine after purchasing land to fulfill a life-long dream of farming. Gary had a love for Maine from a very young age and would often visit his grandfather’s farm in Cornville as a child, where he would hunt, fish and ski. Gary always dreamed of owning his own farm and took great pride in calling Maine his home.

Gary was incredibly passionate about farming and proudly supported the national organization Future Farmers of America “FFA”, an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. The students learn technical and practical agriculture by living and working with American farm families. He hosted countless agricultural foreign exchange students from all over the world who energetically shared his love of farming for over 30 years. Gary found tremendous joy in sharing his family farm and knowledge, while at this same time he took great interest in learning about agriculture and social practices of other countries. He loved the cultural experience and friendships he made and continued to maintain his relationships long after their stay on the farm saying, “You’ve got a good friend for life.”

In 2006, Gary’s adventurous spirt and love for agriculture found him traveling the country to work on combine harvesters in the Midwest and Canada where he harvested multiple cereal crops. In addition to farming, he loved all things outdoors and took pleasure in the simplicity of nature. In 2007 he became a white-water rafting guide working for Northeast Whitewater Rafting & Moose Tours in Shirley Mills. Throughout his life, Gary was very proud of his accomplishments, and deeply enjoyed and loved his family. He was a vivacious storyteller and an incredibly generous friend and neighbor and was always developing new friendships.

Gary was a humble, hard-working and sincere man with an infectious laugh and smile that will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Kenneth “Kenny” and is survived by his brothers Kevin, Adrian “Abie”, Brian and sister Ellen.
