Geneva S. Allen, 94, died after a brief illness on July 28,2023 at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. She was born December 3, 1928, in Palmyra, Maine, the daughter of Phoebe (Marie Flavie Pelletier) Somers and Otis Somers.
She graduated class Valedictorian from Corinna Union Academy in 1946. She continued her education graduating from Husson College in 1949 (now known as Husson University). In 1950 she married Carroll Allen, and they settled in the Hampden/Bangor area. She is survived by two sons, Edward of Sarasota, FL and his wife Lorraine, and Roy of Bangor and his wife Tracey; son-in-law, Phil Badger; daughter-in-law, Bonnie; grandchildren Justin, Ben and Kelly, and great grandchildren Maddie, Baxter, Tommy, Eva and Alyx. Geneva was predeceased by her husband, Carroll, a son, Dennis, and a daughter, Brenda Badger.
She had a passion for golf and enjoyed playing on the Tuesday women’s golf teams in Hampden. She was convinced that it rained every Tuesday solely to disrupt their golf game. She also enjoyed volunteering in the community and participated in the Meals on Wheels program, with the Maine Veterans Home volunteers, and served on the board of the YMCA to name a few of these activities. Perhaps her greatest service organization involvement was with the Eastern Star. Geneva joined Star in the East Chapter #17 of Hampden, Maine on Sept. 30, 1965. She was a Past Matron of that chapter. She had served the Grand Chapter of Maine as Grand Adah, District Deputy Grand Matron, Grand Representative, and was Worthy Grand Matron in 1982-83. She was a General Grand Chapter Committee Member on Youth from 1994-1997. She was currently a member of Millwee Chapter #198 of Orrington, Maine. She had also been on the advisory board for the Rainbow Girls and held the Grand Cross of Color.
