HENDERSONVILLE, NC & BREWER – George Basil guy, 81, died Wednesday February 5, 2014 at his son Dylan’s home in Brewer. He was born April 15, 1932 in Debec, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the son of the late Cecil H. and “Betty” Mary Elizabeth Millar Guy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by Thelma, his wife of 56 years, a son, Daniel, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and a daughter-in-law, Greggette. George grew up in Littleton, the ninth of ten children, and graduated from Houlton High School. He married Thelma Ruth Smith of Houlton on August 18, 1952. After serving 20 years in the U.S. Air Force where he made many lifelong friends, he and Thelma retired to Fort Fairfield, where they lived for 27 years before moving to Hendersonville, NC. George found enjoyment in owning Trader George’s in Westfield, where he bought and sold most anything. George is survived by five sons, Dennis and his wife Cathy of Montgomery, TX, Darrell and his wife Mary of Marietta, GA, Dwayne and his wife Barb of Rockland, Dwight of Kent, WA, Dylan and his wife Jean of Brewer, and one daughter Dedra Rogers and her husband Jack of Simpsonville, SC. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one on the way, many nieces and nephews, his brother Holden of Barrie, ON, Canada, and his sister Gwendoline Gallagher of Woodstock, NB, Canada. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life for George will take place at a later date followed by an interment with military honors at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
