George “Elwell” Hicks Jr. passed away quietly in a Lewiston hospital on
January 8, 2023. He lived 79 years of a very good life, loved by good
friends and family.
Elwell was born July 2 1943, to George Elwell and Lillian (Batchelder)Hicks
He spent his entire life in the Corinth area, graduating from East Corinth
Academy, Class of 1961. He was a firefighter and an EMT for the Town of
Corinth. He joined the Army Reserves in 1961 and he owned his own oil
and LP gas business, Elwell’s Fuels, for many years. In the 1970s he was
part-time deputy for the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office. In 1979, he
married Cynthia A. Bean. He was employed by Dead River Company for 27
years, retiring in 2013. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with friends, and
in 2020, he was elected to the select board for the Town of Corinth.
Elwell loved working on the family farm, so much so that he would take his
vacations from Dead River Company to help out his brother on the farm.
Going out to breakfast was another favorite pastime, as was going to shows
and trips out of state with friends. He will be missed by family and friends
alike.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia, his daughters LeAnn Stocker and
husband Rick of Dexter; Cassandra Collins and husband John Staples of
Corinth; Michele Collins and Husband Jason Sanford of Old Town. A
grandson, Joshua Rolland of Corinth, a granddaughter, Mikayla Lindsay of
South Portland and many fur grandkids. His sisters, Sharon Crawford and
Husband Robert of Hermon, Freda Sanborn and her partner Richard Smith
of Exeter, his Brother Terry Hicks and wife Julie of Corinth; and many nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and many aunts
and uncles.
A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 from 1pm to 4pm at his home, 203 Beans Mill Rd, Corinth Maine. Please come and share in remembering the amazing life of Elwell. In lieu of flowers, a
