George Mcdonald, Jr.

April 6, 1946 — May 16, 2022

Holden - George Angus McDonald, Jr., 76, of Holden, died May 16, 2022 at a Bangor Hospital, with his daughter, Sarah, by his side. He was born in Bangor, April 6th, 1946, the son of George Angus McDonald, Sr and Ida (Mayo) McDonald.

George was a 1964 graduate of Brewer High School and in 1966 he enlisted in the United States Navy serving honorably as a Molder Second Class aboard the U.S.S. Yosemite AD-19., stationed in Newport, RI. He retired as Builder Chief NMCB27 with 24 years of faithful and honorable service and continued to be involved with the greater New England Chiefs Mess even after his retirement.

He finished his education at the University of Maine at Orono studying Soils and Water science. He worked for the State of Maine as a Health Inspector for many years and was also self-employed as a Soils Scientist. He also spent time working in mills in many different states as a brick, cement, and tile mason for Stebbins. He spent 36 years as a member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union, with Local 3 Boston.

George got the most joy from spending time with his family and taking road trips with his wife Teresa. He also loved to be home in Holden. You could often find him there at the house he built but rarely ever sitting still. He was always working on something, whether it was a new project, tinkering in the garage, building a rock wall, or just fixing something that needed fixing. He also loved to ride his Harley and was a Charter member of the Exiles motorcycle club which was the first of its kind in Maine.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer McDonald of Salem, MA; son, George III, wife Rebecca and grandsons, Jaxon, Mason, and Caden of Danville, CA; daughter, Sarah and husband, Sam Martinelli of Orono; brothers, James and wife, Irene of Holden, Joseph and fiancée, PammyJean of Brewer; sister, Margaret and husband, Rodney Joyal of Eddington; many cousins (US & Canada), nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Teresa, brother John and infant sister, Patricia.

Special thanks to Glen Kohles, Navy shipmates, Bill Pennington & Dan Owens with their video chatting which is something he looked forward to daily.
