George Nelson

MILLINOCKET – George E. Nelson, 82, passed away peacefully January 16, 2023, at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 19, 1940, in Brownville, the son of Everett and Irene (Johnston) Nelson.

George grew up in Brownville and attended schools in Milo as well. In 1956, he and his family moved to Millinocket. He graduated from Stearns High School, Class of 1959. Shortly after graduation, he attended barber school. He served in the United States Army Security Agency, spending time in Japan, Korea and South Vietnam until he was honorably discharged in 1962.

George spent the next 20 years cutting and styling hair in Millinocket, until he moved to Texas for over ten years. Upon his return back to Maine, he drove truck over the road for Timberland Trucking, in Medway for 13 years. During that time, he met the love of his life, Pauline Ross. They celebrated over 30 years of marriage until his passing.

In addition to his loving wife, Pauline, George is survived by his children, Larry Ross and his wife, Mary, Darrell Ross Jr. and his wife, Laurie, Brenda Ross and her partner, Keith Wright, Shawn Ross and his wife, Sue; brother, Roland Davis and his wife, Nancy; brother-in-law, Gilbert Burrell; cousins, Michael Nelson and Brenda Stoner; nephew, Jeremy Davis; nieces, Evelyn Burrell and Carolyn Kyle; and several other extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Mattie; his grandfather, August; second grandmother, Anastasia; sister, Dawn Burrell; stepfather, Frederick Levensalor; and cousin, Jan A. Nelson.

In keeping with George’s wishes, services will be private. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, in the spring, at a date and time to be announced.
