George Villett

July 12, 1930 — July 6, 2022

George Harrison “Harry” Villett, 91, formerly of Hampton, Prince Edward Island and Salem, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his son’s residence in Hampden, Maine, on July 6, 2022. He was born July 12, 1930, to the late Gordon and Georgie (MacFarlane) Villett. He was raised in Hampton, Prince Edward Island. He lived in Toronto before meeting his beloved wife, late Margaret “Peggy” (Dickson) Villett, whom he married on October 10, 1959. They were married for 55 years until her passing in 2014. For more than forty years, they resided in Salem, Massachusetts. Harry became a United States citizen in June 1972. Harry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and recently a great-grandfather. He had a successful career in banking and retired after 36 years with Eastern Bank. He was a Lieutenant Emeritus with the Aleppo Shriners in Wilmington, Massachusetts as well as a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite with The Lodge of the Royal Secret in Massachusetts. In 2003, Harry and Peggy retired to their winter home in Naples, Florida. Harry was an avid reader, enjoyed playing golf and bike riding, particularly at Forest Glen Golf and Country Club, and hosted many card games welcoming all as friends. Harry and Peggy enjoyed many beautiful summers in their waterfront home in P.E.I. Harry spent his days gardening, shucking oysters, digging for clams and mussels along the shore, and always delightfully sharing with family and friends. Harry and Peggy created beautiful lifelong memories with their children and grandchildren.

We want to extend special gratitude to Cindy Goodwin and Leila Mahijibhai for their loving care, attention, and comfort provided to our father. Their unwavering dedication over the past three years enabled us to keep Harry in our home throughout the progression of dementia. We are forever grateful for these angels on earth.

Harry is survived by his two sons, Bradley Villett and his wife Jo-Marie of Nashua, N.H., and Stephen Villett and his wife Sheryl of Hampden, Maine; a sister, Gladys Wright of Charlottetown, P.E.I.; four grandchildren; Alicia, Ryan, Tyler, and Derek, and his wife Morgan and their two children (Harry’s great-grandchildren) Maddison and Anthony, and many nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his cherished wife Margaret “Peggy” (Dickson) Villett, his sister Florence Armstrong and brother Gordon “Reid” Villett.

A family remembrance and celebration of life will be privately held in P.E.I. with a graveside service at the Tyron People’s Cemetery (P.E.I.).
