BANGOR and RYE, NH – Georgia Predaris Paul, wife of the late Sidney B. Paul, died July 1, 2014 in Portsmouth, NH. She was born January 4, 1918 in Bangor, the daughter of the late John and Katina (Boretos) Skoufis.

A graduate of Bangor High School and Beals Business College, Georgia was a buyer for 20 years at Rines Company, for which she traveled to New York City on frequent buying trips. She enjoyed memorable trips and visits with her brother, Peter, and sister-in-law, Helen when Peter was a member of the United States Diplomatic Service stationed in London, Paris, The Hague and Rome. She also traveled to Greece several times with her sister, Helen Rozos.

Georgia was a faithful supporter of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bangor and President of the former Ladies Philoptochos Society. She had a long standing group of close friends with whom she shared concerts and trips. She was an avid reader and a patron of the Bangor Public Library. A lifelong knitter, Georgia created many beautiful afghans for her family.

Georgia’s family, the Skoufises, were part of the group of Greek immigrants who played a crucial role in the commercial development of downtown Bangor in the early 1900s. Her father owned a candy store on Main Street where Georgia worked as a young girl.

Georgia was predeceased by her brothers, Louis J. Skoufis and Peter J. Skoufis, her sister, Helen Rozos , her sister-in-law, Helen Skoufis and her step-son, Jonathan Paul. She is survived by her son, George Predaris and his wife, Norah of Rye, NH, and son, Jon Predaris and his wife, Mary of Walpole, MA; her sister, Annie Anthony and her husband, Harry of LaJolla, CA; her grandson, Paul and his wife, Susan and granddaughter, Nicole and her husband, Michael, all of Rye, NH; five step-grandchildren: Kim Brooks of Norwood, MA, Kelly and her husband, Brad Sicchitiano of Norfolk, MA, Lauren and her husband, David Rota of Brookline, MA, Rick and his wife, Karin Johnston of Rockland, MA and Lesley and Zach Lang of Roswell, GA. Georgia also had 17 great-grandchildren and a special nephew, John Rozos of Poland Springs, ME; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7pm Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A funeral service will be held 10am Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 90 Sanford Street, Bangor. Interment will be at the Skoufis Family Lot at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, immediately following the service.
