Gerald Diprofio

August 13, 1931 — October 25, 2020

LIMESTONE – Early in the morning October 25, 2020, Gerald F. DiProfio peacefully passed, surrounded by family, following a short illness. Gerald was born August 13, 1931, in Westborough, Massachusetts, to Silvio and Isabel DiProfio.
Gerald spent his childhood in Westborough, graduating from Westborough High School. He attended Worcester Junior College and Husson College earning degrees in Liberal Studies and Business Administration.
Gerald served in the Air Force for 25 years entering during the Korean War, and worked as an Air Traffic Controller supporting combat missions in Vietnam. Along the years the Air Force brought him much joy and fulfillment, but his family was the true center of his life. He was a loyal and loving son to Silvio and Isabel, a loving brother to James and Leonard and a devoted and loving husband to Rose, of Brewer, Maine. Gerald was a proud and loving father to his eight children: Dawn, David, Cathy, Carrie, Daniel, Scott, Anthony and Michael. He was pleased when his sons and daughters gave him fine sons-in-law and daughters-in-law: Paul, Rudy, Sue, Gena, Susan, Jackie and Tina. He deeply loved his grandchildren: Marissa, Erin, Evan, Alyssa, Haley, Ashley, Michael, Zachary, Cameron, and Alexis. He adored his great-grandchildren: Annabelle, Lilliana, Arrionn, Brayden, Carmen, Nora, Malcolm and Skylar. The friends and colleagues he leaves behind all added a wonderful depth and joy to his life.
In the words of his family: His wife Rose - “He was the greatest husband in the world, I love him”; His children - “We adored Dad, he was an exceptional father and best friend”; Granddaughter Erin - “I had the cutest Papa. He was a man of few words, but when he did say something it was usually witty and hilarious. I did not know what devotion was until I watched Papa care for my Nana”; Granddaughter Alyssa – “Thank you for being the man you were, being great to all of us and keeping us laughing! Love you Papa!”; Granddaughter Haley - “He was everything a great man should be and more … and he didn’t even try. To say I will miss him is a huge understatement, but I will be listening to his stories and laughing again with him some day.”
Gerald was a tried-and-true Red Sox fan. He passed on his love of all Boston sports to his wife and children. Gerald is survived by his wife, sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his dear grandparents, father, mother, two brothers, many aunts and uncles, and several dear friends.
Gerald’s family offer their profound thanks to all the healthcare professionals who provided him with the best of care and compassion, words cannot express how much their care has meant to those of us who loved him.
Interment will take place at a future time in Caribou, where he will be laid to rest at the Veteran’s Wall. The family asks that any memorial cemetery donations be made to Fisher House Foundation, Inc., which provides a home away from home for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. Donations can be made at FisherHouse.org. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
