Eddington and Brewer – Gerald L. “Jerry” Harvey, 87, died March 18, 2016, at a Bangor hospital. He was born July 29, 1928, in Nesopeck, PA, the son of Archie V. and Florence R. (Musselman) Harvey. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Elwood of Indiana.
Jerry served in the United States Air Force from August 8, 1946 through January 9, 1952 when he was honorably discharged. He enjoyed his life as a gentleman farmer and was a retired printer, having owned and operated the Quick Copy Center of Eddington for over 20 years. He built four houses with the help and guidance of his in-laws Godfrey Quirion and Eliza (Stewart) Quirion. Growing up in New York he attained the rank of First Class in Boy Scouts. Jerry was a member of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge #217 AF & AM of Orrington and was raised as a Master Mason on March 17, 1955. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor and Portland, and the Anah Shriners. He was a member of the Academicians Unit, 100 Million Dollar Club and Editor Emeritus of the Anahgram, retiring after 30 years in 2014. During his tenure as Editor the Anahgram was awarded the Dromedary numerous times. He was a former selectman of the Town of Eddington and a volunteer for the Eddington Fire Department.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lorraine (Quirion) Harvey, of Brewer; children, Colleen H. and her husband, Albert L. Smith III, of Bangor, Gerald L. Harvey II and his wife, Shirley, of Gardiner, Cynthia H. and her husband, Gregory J. Berg, of Oak Park, CA, and Lisa H. and her husband, Daniel H. Fitzgerald, of Brewer; Jerry was known as Papa to his grandchildren, Meghan (Smith) MacDonald, of Bangor, SSG Mark H. Fitzgerald, of Anchorage, AK, Paul S. Fitzgerald, of Bangor, and Chelsea E. Berg, of Boulder, CO. three great-grandchildren, P. Sullivan MacDonald, of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Seamus F. MacDonald, of Bangor and Hailey E. Nemecek, of Richmond, VA.
The family wishes to thank the staff at CancerCare of Maine and St. Joseph Hospital for their care.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. by the officers and members of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge of Orrington.
