Geraldine Ann (Bartlett) Kearns-Makhlouf, died October 16, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. She was born April 17, 1932 in Camden the daughter of Alton and Margaret (Wentworth) Bartlett. Gerry attended the Snow’s Corner Elementary in Orrington and was a graduate of Brewer High School Class of 1950, and the University of Maine Portland Gorham in 1977, Magna Cum Laude, with an Elementary Education Degree and was a Licensed Social Worker. Gerry was a Visiting Homemaker and worked at United Cerebral Palsy Center and was Director of Camp Capella. She was Head Teacher at Penquis Head Start in Bangor. Gerry worked for nineteen years for the State of Maine Division of Mental Retardation as a Caseworker and as an Individual Program Plan Coordinator and as Program Supervisor. She was a past president and member of the Bangor Nature Club. Gerry was president for four years and a member of the Bangor Garden Club. She was founding Board Member of Opportunity Housing Inc. and served as a board member for Bangor Nursing and Rehab Center. Gerry served as past President and was Scholarship Chairman for the Brewer High School Senior Alumni Association. She is survived by her husband Mohamed; two sons Dana E. Kearns and his wife Susan of Eddington and William F. Kearns and his wife Carol; three grandchildren Kelley, Brian and Jonathan Kearns; brother Raymond Bartlett of Fort Worth Texas; One special niece Cynthia Kearns-Wilczewske and her husband Gene; two special nephews Stephen Kearns and his wife Kate and Kenneth Kearns and his wife Debbie. Gerry was predeceased by her parents and a sister Naomi Bartlett Kearns and a nephew Richard Kearns. Gerry was a loving mother who was devoted to her family. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 6-8pm Saturday October 19, 2013 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., Bangor where funeral services will be held 1:00pm Sunday October 20, 2013 with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, officiating. Interment will be in the City section of Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith 163 Center St., Bangor following the interment.
