ORONO and MARS HILL - Gertrude Doris Boyd, 92, died October 28, 2020, at Orono Commons. She was born November 14, 1927, in Limestone, Maine, the fourth child of Burnice and Janie (Burtchell) Edgecomb. She married Ronald G. Boyd, August 6, 1948 and they settled in Mars Hill. Gertrude worked for 31 years at various potato plants in Aroostook County. She took pride in her work and was a very dedicated employee. She loved her family tremendously and enjoyed cooking for them. Gertrude was a Championship Ping Pong medalist during her high school years. She attended Mars Hill Full Gospel Assembly where she taught Sunday School. A highlight of her life with Ronald was time spent with her family at camp interacting with her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Frances Lake, Stella Anderson, and brother, Burnice Edgecomb Jr. She is survived by her husband, Ronald, of 72 years; her two sons, Gary and his wife, Sherry of York, and Wayne and his wife, Leslie of Holden. She is also survived by three grandsons, Stephen and his wife, Meg of Connecticut, Chad and his wife, Lang of California, and Jonathan of Old Town, and by three granddaughters, Lindsay and her husband, Andrew of Bangor, Melissa and her husband, Jonathan of Massachusetts, Heather and her husband Kevin, of Indiana; twelve great grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Kings Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill at a later date.
