BREWER – Gilbert C. “Gil” Cory, 86, passed away September 28, 2022, peacefully at his home, with his wife and loved ones by his side. He was born January 26, 1936, in Fifield, Wisconsin, the son of Gilbert E. and Bernice E. (Wagner) Cory.
Soon after, the family moved to Chicago’s South Side. Gil graduated from high school in 1953. He graduated from Roosevelt College in Chicago in 1959 with Bachelor’s Degrees in Biology and Chemistry.
He soon began his long career in the food processing industry, which took him all over the world. He specialized in product and process development, as well as quality assurance for numerous companies during his career. Through the years, he worked with companies such as Campbell's, Hormel, McCain Foods and Quaker Oats. His last assignment in the industry was as a volunteer consultant for the U.S. Department of State’s Agency for International Development, where he worked in Cyprus.
He married Elizabeth Ann Childress in 1959, who had a son from a previous marriage, Gary. Together, he and Liz had three children – Michael, Karen and Matthew.
In 1987, he married Ann Marie (Thibodeau) Crawford, who had a daughter and a son from a previous marriage – Lori and Jeff.
Upon retirement, Gil was heavily involved as a volunteer with the Maine Troop Greeters and the Bangor Homeless Shelter.
In addition to his wife, Ann, Gil is survived by his children, Michael (Elaine) Cory, of North Richland Hills, Texas, Karen (Shayne) Watt, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Matthew (Betsy) Cory, of Bemidji, Minnesota; stepchildren, Lori Clarke (Beverlee Bennett), of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Jeff Crawford, of Toronto, Ontario; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Bruce Cory (Caroline), of Brooklyn, New York; his sister, Barb Barta, of Naperville, Illinois; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Dorie Green; and stepson, Gary McKinney.
The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Thursday, October 6, 2022 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Those who wish to remember Gil in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Homeless Shelter, 263 Main St, Bangor, ME 04401, or the Bangor YMCA, 17 Second Street Bangor, ME 04401. Interment will be a graveside family service at a later date at Forest Home Cemetery in Fifield, Wisconsin.
