Gilbert White

December 6, 1929 — January 22, 2023

BANGOR - Gilbert M. "Gib" White, 93, husband of the late Joyce (Redman) White, passed away January 22, 2023, at his home. He was born December 6, 1929, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Leon G. and Laura (Trundy) White.

Gib attended Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1947, and Maine Central Institute, in 1948. He attended the University of Maine before serving in the U. S. Army from March 1951 through March 1953. After being discharged from the Army, he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1985 after 32 years. During his time with the Postal Service he served as a Temporary Letter Carrier, Railway Mail Clerk, Postal Clerk, Supervisor of Mails, Superintendent of Mails, Director of Finance, MSC Director of Mail Processing and three periods of Acting MSC Manager/Postmaster. He returned to the work force in 1992 for 12 years as a part time transport driver for Darling's Honda, Nissan, Volvo. Later he worked for 3 years as an outside photographer for Brogue Insurance. He also served his community as a member of the budget committee for United Way and as a member of the Parks and Recreation committee. He and his wife enjoyed camping with their two daughters and friends. Gib was an avid golfer, bowler and snowmobiler.

Gib is survived by his daughters, Laura Michaud and her husband, William, of Dedham, and Elaine Grant and her husband, Steven, of Bangor; grandsons, Christopher Grant and his wife, Megan and Matthew Grant and his wife, Annie, who blessed him with two great grandchildren, Madison and Carter Grant. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Stubbs and his wife, Ann, of Bangor; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 48 years; sister, Ruth Wight; and brothers, Leon G. White Jr. and Donald White.

Private interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family would like to thank St. Joseph's Hospice for their kindness, compassion and support while they cared for Gib at home.
