Gilman M. Parker, 79, died peacefully August 20, 2016 at his home in Florida, surrounded by his wife, son and daughter, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born October 9, 1936 in Brewer, the only child to Curtis G. Parker and Olive E. (Marshall) Parker.
Gil was a graduate of Brewer High School, class of 1955. He married Grace Ann Tuck on June 8, 1956. They moved to Orrington in 1960 and that is where they stayed for the next 35 years while raising their family.
He went to work for St. Johnsbury Trucking Co. in 1959 as a truck driver, where he worked for 34 years, retiring in 1993. He spent many years as a member of the Naval Reserves. He was also a long time member of the NRA, U.S. Power Squadron and an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Gil had a great love for fishing and boating. He and Gracie enjoyed snowmobiling and camping in their younger years, until they bought their camp on Bottle Lake in Lakeville, ME, in 1972. Then weekends and vacations were spent at the lake unless they were traveling or going on cruises with many different family and friends.
Once they retired, they spent summers at the lake and winters in Nokomis, FL. For many years Gil would take his boat, the “Princess Grace” to Florida and spent many days touring the Intracoastal Waterway with many family and friends families when they were visiting Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace Ann (Tuck) Parker, son, Michael G. Parker and wife Wanda of Old Town, daughter, Cheryl M. Nelson and husband, Jeffrey of Hampden; foster daughter, Penny T. Bisping of Pompano Beach, FL.; he was Papa to seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, Candy, Brandon, Michael, Emily, and Joseph; nine great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Charles “Bill” Tuck and wife, Ethel of Bangor, Richard Tuck and wife, Lorraine of Eddington and Melvin Coffin of Milford.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with The Reverend Thomas Tuck, nephew of Gil’s, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call 12 until time of service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor following the service.
