STOCKTON SPRINGS – Gladys Dorothy Bennett of Stockton Springs, 66, entered the presence of her Lord on February 24, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. She was born April 9, 1947, to George and Gladys (Walker) Hicks in Providence, RI.
After graduating from Stratton High School, she attended the New Brunswick Bible Institute where she met her husband David. Gladys is survived by David, her husband of 46 years, three children, Karen Brown of Merrimack, NH, Mark of Old Town and Kathleen MacKenzie of Bangor, and 8 grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Joshua, Caleb, Mercy, Paten, Carey and Lorelei. She was predeceased by her parents, a daughter, Michelle, and a brother Stephen Reed. Gladys had a great love for children and was gifted at working with them. She taught 5-Day clubs, and taught and coordinated AWANA and junior church programs, VBS and after-school programs. Her life exemplified a loving servant’s heart and lived her faith in the living, resurrected Lord. She touched many lives, whether through collecting and distributing clothing, sewing, substitute teaching, or being a listening ear. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7pm Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor where a service celebrating her life will be held 2pm Saturday, March 1, 2014 with the Rev. Daniel Packer, pastor of the Orrington Center Church, officiating. Spring interment will be in the Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
