Glenn Miller

August 17, 1942 — July 5, 2022

Bangor - Glenn Thomas Miller, 79, died after a short illness in Bangor, Maine just as the sun began to rise on July 5, 2022. He was born August 17, 1942, in Richmond, VA, the son of Gwen and Elmer Miller.

He married the love of his life, Frankie, almost 58 years ago. Glenn graduated from the University of Richmond, Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, and Union Theological Seminary. A Baptist minister, church historian and seminary professor, Glenn loved Jesus and loved to preach about Him in small churches, enjoying serving as interim minister for many congregations in both North Carolina and Maine. He taught at Southeastern Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC and at Bangor Theological Seminary, and also served as an administrator and dean. After moving to Maine, he found fellowship and service through Tres Dias. He loved to teach and mentor, and he wrote several books about the history of theological education in America. Glenn loved his family and his cats. He loved to read and think about just about everything; he also enjoyed walks, gardening, and reading How The Grinch Stole Christmas (in both English and Latin) to his children and grandchildren as well as to his seminary students (though the commentary was different for each group). There is much more to say, but his instructions were to make this short.

Glenn was predeceased by his parents and his beloved sister Anne. He is survived by his wife Frankie; daughters Anne-Marie (Ben) and Elizabeth (Dan); grandchildren Cristian, Rachel, Kasieum, Adam, Cooper, and Sam; and his brother Robert. Many thanks to the caregivers of Grant 4 at EMMC, and of the Rosen Radiation Center in Brewer: we appreciate the compassionate care you provided through this journey.
