ORONO – Gloria (Lounsbury) Gray died peacefully at the Maine Veterans’ Home with her husband at her side on April 3, 2015. She was born August 5, 1923 in Bangor, a daughter of Enoch and Cecelia (Doucette) Lounsbury.
She graduated from Orono High School in 1941. She married Wesley F. Gray on June 10, 1946 and shared 68 years of marriage with him. She worked part time at the A&P in Orono when her children were young and 17 years for Dr. Henry K. Woodbrey. She and Wesley travelled throughout the east coast upon retirement. They wintered in Myrtle Beach, SC for 15 years. She was an avid reader. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orono and the Newman Center in Orono.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Eleanor Leveille and Winifred Danforth; and a brother, Kenneth Lounsbury. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Wesley; four sons, Alan of Old Town; Martin and wife Susanne of Corinth; Michael and wife Joanne of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; and Christopher of Seabrook, NH.; two brothers, Joseph Lounsbury and wife Gerry of Hampden; Merle Lounsbury and wife Ann of Rangeley; sister, Jane Sternberg of Rockland; and sister-in-law Sally Lounsbury of Mesa, AZ.; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to eldest son Alan for the daily unconditional devotion to his mother, through the love and care he provided to her making her later years in life happy and healthful. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to the staffs at Winterberry Heights, the Phillips-Strickland House, Eastern Maine Medical Center, and the Maine Veterans’ Home for their compassion and care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Parish, 429 Main Street, Old Town. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Orono. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
