Gloria Tanya Miller
Bangor.
Gloria Tanya Miller, 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by many of her loving family on January 4th, 2021. She was born on July 9th, 1936, in Springfield, MA, the daughter of Milton and Fay LaMelle.
Gloria graduated from Classical High School, Class of 1954. Following graduation, she attended Beth Israel School of Nursing in Boston, MA, where she met the love of her life, Billy Miller, in a drug store near Fenway Park. Soon after, they attended a Red Sox game for their first date. Gloria and Billy married on August 4th, 1956 in Springfield, MA. Upon Billy’s graduation from pharmaceutical school in 1957, they returned to Bangor, ME, to enter the family business soon to be known as Miller Drug, where she spent many years working side by side with her husband.
Gloria was active in many community organizations, especially Beth Israel Synagogue, Camp Capella, The American Red Cross, Hadassah and a longtime member of the Junior League. The third Friday of every month, Gloria and her husband would be found serving with The Salvation Army soup kitchen. She volunteered for many years at EMMC gift shop. Upon retirement Gloria Miller enjoyed reading, baking chocolate chip cookies, knitting, needle pointing, playing Mahjong with her girlfriends, and bragging about her 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and her great grandchild. In the evenings you would find her sipping Pinot Grigio with ice. She was a passionate fan of the Red Sox – win or lose. She couldn’t pass up a good manicure or a new pair of shoes. We would be remised if we didn’t mention Gloria’s willing participation in Billy’s musical endeavors with the Bangor Symphony and Bangor Band. Gloria was Billy’s biggest fan. Gloria enjoyed vacationing with her husband, whether it was visiting her children or spending time in the Bahamas. Gloria was quiet and a very special person who required little attention, and will be missed very deeply.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Billy Miller, are her son Howard Miller and his wife, Jan Choy of Hawaii; daughter, Randi Smuckler and her husband, William Smuckler of Ohio; daughter, Lori Prescott and her fiancé, Ed O’Hara, of Maine; daughter, Debbie Solomon and her husband, Doug Solomon of Massachusetts; grandchildren, Ben Miller, Tucker Miller, Megan Smuckler, Hillary Smuckler, Meredith Arnold, Cory Prescott, Sarah Prescott, Sam Solomon, Eric Solomon, Jacob Solomon, and great grandchild, Stella Faye Smuckler. Additionally, her sister Veta Fabian and her husband Bernard Fabian, brother and sister-in-laws, Sybil Michelson, Steve and Ellen Miller, many nieces and nephews, and will forever hold a special place in her heart for all of her cousins. In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mickey and Ellen Miller.
