Orono - Gordon Kenneth Beal, 91, dear husband of the late Virginia Beal, his wife of 65 years, died at his home March 5, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born June 20, 1922 in Victoria, British Columbia the son of Arthur W. and Annie G. (Elford) Beal. Gordon was a 1940 graduate of Whitman High School, and received a degree in graphic arts from Wentworth Institute. A WWII veteran Gordon was a member of the Air Transport Command. He was the superintendent of printing services for the University of Maine, Orono until his retirement in 1984. Gordon lived out his faith in what he did. Gordon was a member of the United Baptist Church of Old Town where he was a sixth grade Sunday School Teacher, superintendent, and deacon for many years. He also loved volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program as well as many other charities. Gordon was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed boating with his wife Virginia. Family was the most important thing to Gordon. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and the get-togethers at the family camp on Beech Hill Pond. In addition to his wife and parents, Gordon was predeceased by his six brothers and sisters. He is survived by three daughters, Bonneva Stevens of Charleston, Esther and her husband Albert Martin of Red Oak, Texas, and Nina and her husband Donald Fuller of Old Town; Six grandchildren, Jennifer Hudson, Melinda Nunez, Steph Fuller, Brad Martin, Johanna Graves, and Sharon Aigler; six great grand-children; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday March 10, 2014 at the United Baptist Church 86 Middle St., Old Town with the Rev. Bruce Stevens, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 12 p.m. until time of service on Monday. Spring interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Orono. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
