Eddington – Gregg Smith, Sadly and unexpectedly Gregg left our lives today at a Bangor hospital to live forever in our hearts and memories. A loving and caring man, born in Bangor, Maine on September 29, 1966 at St. Joseph's Hospital to Vernon G. and Sara Jane (Knox) Smith. Gregg grew up and lived his whole life in Eddington, Maine. He had an amazing outlook on life and lived each and every moment to its fullest. He always had a smile, a crazy laugh and/or a twinkle in his eye. He had a love for people and cherished his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and was so loved. Gregg went to elementary school in Eddington and graduated from Brewer High School in 1985. He was a member of the Eddington Fire Department and discovered he loved rescuing people and decided to take another step and become an EMT. He went to EMTC, enrolled in the paramedic/EMT course, and upon his graduation went to work for Capital Ambulance. Anyone who works as a paramedic understands that after a while the heartache you encounter each day takes a toil on you. Being the big hearted person he was, and growing tired of the sadness of others, he decided to make a career change. His love for children and their humor and fun personalities, he took a job as bus driver for SAD#63 in Eddington, Holden and Clifton. He has dedicated the past 19 years as a mentor, caretaker, and guidance counselor of his "kids" on his bus. He has touched many lives in his career always with a smile - even if the circumstance might not be funny Gregg always saw the funny side of the situation. Gregg leaves behind his mother, Sara, of Eddington. Two children who were the light of his life and his pride and joy, Emily and Nick and their mother, Terri Carlisle, of Brewer. Three brothers, Irvin and his wife Laurie of Eddington, Jeffrey and his wife Cindy of Carmel, and Russell of Eddington. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Brent Theriault, Tyler Smith, Samantha Smith, Kimberly Deighan, Jason Smith, and Kaitlyn and Taylor Theriault. He was predeceased by his father, Vernon, his brother Andy and his niece, Erin. Gregg also leaves behind one of the "best bosses and friends anyone could ask for", Jake Morgan of SAD#63 (Gregg's words). Gregg and Jake had a special bond and Gregg always appreciated the bond. Finally, he leaves his bus driver family - there are so many of you to list individually however you know who you are and you know how much he loved and enjoyed each and every one of you. He especially had a very special friendship with Bonnie Brown (his partner in adventures!) and Julie and Joe Lacerda (his sister & brother from another mother!) A time for visiting will be held from 6-8pm Friday December 18, 2015 at the North Brewer/Eddington United Methodist Church on Rt. 9 in Eddington. A memorial service will be held in the Holbrook School Gymnasium, 202 Kidder Hill Road in Holden on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. There will be a time to share stories, memories and smiles during the service. A reception will follow the service in the Holbrook Cafeteria. Burial will be at a later date in the Spring at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Route 9 in Eddington, In lieu of flowers, it would be greatly appreciated to send a donation to the family to help with medical costs and funeral expenses. Your gentle face and patient smile with sadness we recall,
You had a kindly word for each and died beloved by all.
The voice is mute and stilled the heart that loved us well and true
Ah, bitter was the trial to part from one as good as you.
You are not forgotten Gregg nor will you ever be
As long as life and memory last we will remember thee.
We miss you now, our hearts are sore
As times goes by we miss you more.
