Bangor - Gregory R. Hope, 68, lost a valiant 2-year battle with cancer on March 17, 2025, and died peacefully at home with his wife by his side. Greg was born in Millinocket, Maine, on December 29, 1956, to Gordon" Dean" Hope and Hazel M. Hemmings Hope. The family moved to Bangor in 1963.
Greg worked for many years in the glass Industry and retired from Sunrise Glass in December of 2021. He was well known to have played in the Bangor Adult softball leagues over many years. Greg enjoyed playing in bowling leagues as well. He was an avid golfer and loved to fish any time he could. Greg was a proud card carrying member of the ACC (American Cribbage Congress) and loved his Monday night Cribbage club at Seasons.
He is survived by his wife, Judi Hamilton Hope, and over the past 4 years, since retirement, he lived life to its fullest and never took a moment for granted. Spontaneous road trips, Antique shopping, home improvement projects, listening to great music, and loving each other and life, was how it was. No matter the venue or situation he was in, if there were children or animals, Greg was at home. He was a natural. Funny, brutally honest, kind and loving. Pretty cool when you get to do what you want when you want and have a soulmate to share it with.
He is survived by three brothers, and their families; Garry and his wife, Brenna, Steve and his wife, Marie, Darren and his partner, Kim; daughters, Ashley Hope and her four children, Chayse Hope, Zoe, Allistor, and Scarlett Morley; Meghan Hope and her partner, Doug Doucette; Cori and Dean Blanks, and their girls Farrah and Lennon; Crista Getchell and her children, Archer and Maisey Douglass. A special mother-in-law, Anna Horton Hamilton, Judi's brothers and sister, Sue Ouellette, Jim and Collette, Chris and Jennifer and Andrew and Stacy Hamilton. Many nieces, nephews and loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He loved you all.
He was predeceased by his parents and his father-in-law, Rev. Richard M. Hamilton.
Interment will be in the Millinocket Cemetery in the Spring. A celebration of life will be at Greg and Judi's home with friends and family yet to be determined.
