Harold Noble “Buzz” Purdy was born in Gardiner, Maine on July 16, 1932 to Harold Colby and Miriam Lee (Ladner) Purdy. He grew up in Gardiner and graduated from Gardiner High School He was a Boy Scout, a Sea Scout, and a member of the infamous SLRPFD Fire Department. He ran the Communication Center for Civil Defense in Augusta.
Buzz worked for New England Telephone Company for 30 years, was a graduate of Cooperstown Advanced Data Communication School and served on the Longley Commission. Upon retiring from NETCo, he started Community Telecommunications Corp in Winthrop, Maine. Upon retirement from there, he partnered in forming Synapse Networking a consulting firm with good friends Richard Hulsey and Joseph Loughran.
Throughout his life he mentored both young and old for sales and marketing expertise as well as life itself. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, mainly at Moosehead Lake but also in Alaska, North Quebec and Labrador and was a Registered Master Maine Guide. He built his first camp at Rowell Cove at Moosehead Lake in 1954 and his second camp at Lily Bay in 1995.
He is predeceased by his parents, his first wife Altha Mooers Purdy, his sister Phyllis Mae Purdy, his daughter Sheryll Ann Purdy, and his “unadopted son” Donald A. Dysart.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 39years, Ann Trainor Purdy as well as life-long friends and family.
A service will be held 10 am. Saturday February 5, 2022 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith 163 Center St., following the service.
