Harrison Pomeroy

GLENBURN and EDDINGTON - Harrison William Pomeroy, 90, passed away at his Glenburn home on March 3, 2016. He was born January 3, 1926 at the family homestead (Pomeroy Family farm) on Phillips Road, Glenburn, the son of Irving and Katie (Foster) Pomeroy. He was the 3rd youngest of 15 children. Harrison graduated from the one room schoolhouse on the Phillips Road; having skipped two grades. He grew up during the Depression and joined the Navy serving during World War II. Upon an honorable discharge from the Navy he worked and retired after working 42 years for the Maine Central Railroad. Harrison was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth (Billington); his son, Harrison, Jr.; his son-in-law Ronnie Raymond; his parents, nieces, nephews and his 14 siblings. Surviving are his children Judy and her husband Stan Badger of Eddington; Nancy Raymond of Glenburn; Mark and his wife Lisa Pomeroy of Hermon; his grandchildren Nickolas Pomeroy, Rachel Pomeroy both of Glenburn; David Violette of Apollo Beach FL, Marie Baillargeon and Michael Violette both of Eddington; Harrison “Harry” Pomeroy III of Bucksport, Arielle Rankin of Brewer, Shane Davis of Carmel; eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
Harrison will always be remembered as a great father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was honored and respected by all who knew him. He was a man of integrity, kindness, forgiveness and love. The most important thing to him was his family and we all knew we were loved by him. We loved, respected and honored him and will continue to do so. Harrison enjoyed working on his farm, fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, working in the woods, being outside, being with family and friends. He unselfishly gave of his time and talents as a volunteer for numerous years with his church callings, Special Olympics, American Diabetes and as a Scoutmaster for 8 years (being a Scoutmaster to both his sons). Family and friends may call 3-5 pm Sunday, March 6 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 639 Grandview Avenue, Bangor with Bishop Everett DeGrasse officiating. Spring interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Family and friends are invited to share in conversation and refreshments following the service at the church.
