Harry Elnathan White

For the first time in 42 years, this much loved and admired gentleman is free from pain. During his recent illness he taught by example with the same determination, courage and character he had shown throughout his life.
Born July 20, 1931 in Portland, son of Elnathan Harry White and Lola (Corey) White. He spent his childhood in Portland, attended Deering High School, transferring in his senior year to Bangor High, where he graduated in 1949. Harry then served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. His eldest son, Terrence was born during this time, followed two years later by son, Thomas. After raising these sons to adulthood, he met and married Donna Watson, and became a father to his second family, sons again, Royce “Bim” and Don and treasured daughters, Terri Lynn, Heidi and Kristi. Unable to work any longer, he took up woodworking as a hobby, making small pieces for his wife to paint as they traveled throughout New England to craft shows. He served two terms, (2003-2007), as president of the United Maine Craftsmen, eventually becoming one of the organizations few honorary members. He developed many close friendships and felt honored to be buddies with, Colon and Maxine, Judy, Betty and Ron and Rose.
He is also survived by a sister, Rosemary Harris of Marblehead, MA. And daughters-in-law, Mary Ellen and Cheryl; sons-in-law, Jim and Chuck; grandchildren, Matthew, Thomas, Nicole, Nathan, Ashlee, D.J., Kate, Ben, Ellie, Nicholas, Dylan, Tyler, Kaylee, and Daniel “George”. While talking recently with a friend, Harry stated that his best friends were grandsons, Matt and Jake.
He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Nelson.
A service in celebration of his life will be held 4 P.M. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor, with the Rev. Grace Bartlett officiating. Interment will be at Mt Hope Cemetery, Bangor at a later date. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. Bangor, following the service.
