BANGOR – Hazel V. (King) Frost, 100, wife of the late Dean S. Frost, died July 6th at Dexter Healthcare. She was born August 27, 1922 in Caribou, daughter of Irving Sylvester and Lena Izora (Johnson) King.
Hazel got her GED in 1957 from Bangor High School, and earned a B.S. degree in Education after going for 17 years in the summers from the University of Maine, Orono. She was an elementary school teacher in the Eddington School Department, SAD 63, for 24 years from 1958-1982. Following her retirement, she enjoyed serving as a volunteer for LYNX, Penquis CAP, Inc., Bangor for 9 years. Hazel was a member of the Essex Street Baptist Church since May 2nd, 1943. She also taught Sunday school there for 34 years. She loved the outdoors with its plants, trees and birds. At 92, she was still be living at her own home and driving. Hazel was proud to be one of 5 generations of women in her family. She was a lady through and through and was one of the last ones from the ladies generation.
Surviving are two children, Deanne Joyce Judd of Brewer and Wanita Elaine Grant of Dexter; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her siblings; Lawrence King, Hilda Wilson, Stella McBreairty, Carl King, Gladys King, and Esther Ellingwood.
In keeping with Hazel’s wishes, services will be private for the family.
