Helen I. Placella, 75, died January 31, 2022, at a Bangor hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born July 11, 1946, in Bangor, the daughter of Donald Webster and Doris Irene (Cort) Knowles.
Helen graduated from Central High School, East Corinth, Class of 1964 and attended Husson College. After college, she married Thomas B. Placella, and they settled in Glenburn. They celebrated 55 years of marriage in January. Helen worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, for 20 years in cardiology and as a blood gas lab technician. She was loved by all who knew her. Helen was selfless, gracious, spirited and had a humble heart. She attended the Family Worship Center in Dover Foxcroft. She enjoyed volunteering, walking, gardening, cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She lived in Florida during the winter months and made some life-long friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Thomas B. Placella, are her sons Thomas D. Placella and Scott T. Placella, daughter Kimberly S. Placella, and four grandchildren.
The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 6 pm to 8pm Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn, in the spring.
