Helga Kittredge

Helga (Hintenaus) Kittredge, 81, of Brewer, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 26, 2024 at a Bangor Hospital. She was born September 22, 1942, in Grieskirchen, Austria, the daughter of Franz and Rosa Hintenaus.

Helga was raised and educated in Salzburg, Austria, before emigrating to the United States in 1965, working in Bangor, Maine, for Mr. and Mrs. Irving Kagan, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Warren, and Bangor Window Shade & Drapery Company. It was in Bangor that she met her husband, Ronald Kittredge, with whom she settled in Brewer, Maine in 1976 and celebrated 52 years of marriage last November.

Helga was a kind and generous woman, a devoted wife, and a wonderful mother, not only to her son, but also to the many cats she had over the years - Katie, Rusty, Truffles, Wolfgang, Heidi, Stormy, Tiger Woods, and Sheba. Helga was an avid and passionate gardener and could often be found taking care of her large backyard vegetable garden, her many beds of roses and other flowers, and the plants in her indoor greenhouse. Helga also participated in Hammond Street Congregational Church and the Brewer Historical Society.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Ronald Kittredge; are her son, Thomas Kittredge and his partner, Kristyn Nordfors, of Brewer, Maine; her sister-in-law, Judith Carter of Hampden, Maine; her nephew, Walter Hintenaus and his wife, Beatrix Fuschlberger, of Salzburg, Austria; her nephew, Matthew Carter and his wife, Beth Robbins Carter, of Bangor, Maine, and his former spouse, Katherine Royce and her fiancé, Jennifer Statelman, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; her nephew, Mark Carter and his wife, Karen Vitale Carter, of Cambridge, Massachusetts; her great-niece, Susanna Fuschlberger and her partner, Fabian Feichtinger, of Salzburg, Austria; her great-niece, Melanie Fuschlberger and her partner, Markus Weberegger, of Salzburg, Austria; her great-nephew, Maxwell Carter and his wife, Ashlyn Carter, and their daughter, Eloise Carter, of Bangor, Maine; and her great-nephew, Stanley Carter and his partner, Abigail MacDonald, of Bangor, Maine. In addition to her parents, Helga was predeceased by her brother, Franz Hintenaus and his wife, Elizabeth; and by her brother-in-law, Gene Carter.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 22, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with the Reverend Gary Bagley officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the funeral service.
