Howland – Henry F. Watson, 88, died after a long illness June 12, 2015, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born July 4, 1926, in Auburn, the son of John A. and Madeline (Fletcher) Watson.
After graduating from Edward Little High School in 1944 he joined the United States Army in defense of his country during World War II. While there he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After being discharged from the Army Henry received his teaching certificate, teaching music in Auburn, Greenville, Milo, Smyrna, and for many years, in Howland. He was passionate about his teaching, continuing with private lessons well into his 80’s.
Henry was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a longtime member of the Bangor Band, and for several years was a member of the Army Guard Band. He was a very social person, and knows an awful lot of people.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Janet Watson. He is survived by his daughter Robin Fisher; his son, Scott Watson; grandchildren, Aaron Fisher, Rebecca Fisher, and Melissa Thibodeau; his sister Roberta Libby and husband Horace; his brother John Watson and wife Ann; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 PM Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a memorial service will be held 1 PM Wednesday, June 17. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service. Interment will be in Maine Veterans’ Cemetery at a later date.
