Herman C. "Buddy" Frankland
Holden
The grace and mercy of God was manifest once again, as a man departed this life and approached the gates of the city of God. "On what ground would you enter this city?" The gatekeeper asked. "I come in the merits of Jesus, for I have no merits of my own," said the man. "It is Christ's sacrifice and death on Calvary that has made provision for me. He paid the price for all my sins and failures, and His resurrection has assured me a gift of eternal life." "Open the gates!" Cried the gatekeeper, "For another son of God has come home!"
And so entered into the city of God Herman C. "Buddy" Frankland, on February 2, 2025. Born on July 5, 1935, the son of Maude Cossaboom Frankland and Oscar Morris Frankland, in Lubec, Maine, Buddy was raised in Eastport, Maine. He always credited any strengths he might have to his formative years on the rugged coast. Called to preach at age twelve, Buddy graduated from Baptist Bible College in 1965 and immediately moved to Bangor to start his own church, as God had called him back to Maine. He was used of God to start Bangor Baptist Church, Bangor Christian Schools, and the Christian radio station WHCF. Buddy was also blessed by God to start Messiah Baptist Church, several years later.
Buddy also served in the United States Air Force, in the late 1950's. These years of military training were crucial in the discipline and work ethic that followed him throughout his life.
Buddy was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and sisters, and his first wife, Joan V. Frankland.
He is survived by his wife, best friend, and helpmate, Edna Murray Frankland. He is also survived by many loving family members: in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Jenny will miss his bright smile especially.
We thank God for sharing Buddy Frankland with those of us left behind, and we look forward to joyously reuniting with him in our Heavenly home, where we will hear, "Hello, Sunshine!" in the voice of our earthly shepherd, again. To God be the glory!
