Honora Gerry

July 3, 1926 — February 4, 2025

BANGOR - Honora Katherine "Nora" (Baker) Gerry, 98, died February 4, 2025, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor after a short period of declining health. She was born on July 3, 1926, to Russell Baker and Winifred (Sargent) Baker. She grew up and attended schools in Hampden, Maine.

Nora met and married the love of her life, Harland Gerry and together they raised four daughters. She was sweet, resilient, independent, hardworking and most of all, forgiving. She was a member of the Hampden Senior Citizens Club, life member of the Whitcomb-Baker VFW Post 4633 and she enjoyed the company of many life-long friends. Nora cherished her family, holiday dinners with as many as she could fit at her table, and time spent with us on a front porch or back deck. She loved her memories of Green Lake and get-aways with her "sister", Janice. Nora was the family historian. We spent as much time as possible talking with her about our family tree; she had an amazing memory.

In addition to her parents and four brothers, Nora was predeceased by her husband, Harland in 1977; a beloved grandson, Michael Gerry Quirk and her sister by marriage, Janice Baker.

She is survived by four daughters, who were her best friends and confidants, Linda (Richard) Stitham, Alice (Alan) Pearson, Deborah (Garry) Gilpatrick and Marlene Gerry. She will be missed by her sons-in-law who never passed up an opportunity to put a smile on her face or a spring in her step. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Laura (Philip) Copp, Thomas Mallory, Jr., Christine Fickett Gilbert, Jill (Travis) Noyes, Joe (Sarah) Quirk, Jerritt Green and Dani Green; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and a special niece, Judith Baker.

Mom showed so much love, appreciation and bravery as she knowingly faced her final days and weeks with us. The family would like to thank the Maine Veterans' Home and Orono Commons for their professional and compassionate care during her stay. A special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, especially the spiritual support provided by Chaplain Dan Hall.

A private graveside service will be held later in the Spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, 1350 Hammond Street, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Maine Veterans' Home, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor ME 04401, or a charity of your choice. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
