Irene Smith Wade – 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 15, 2018. She was undoubtedly welcomed “home” by her predeceased husband, Orrin F. Wade of 59 years, with a big smile and bear hug after waiting 10 years to be reunited.
Irene was born on July 1, 1925 in Charleston, Maine, the daughter of the late Lewis L. Smith and Helen (Skinner) Smith. She was predeceased by sisters Berdena Strout, and Glennyse Legeza; and brothers Lewis L. Smith Jr, and Donald Smith. She is survived by 3 sisters: Shirley Clark, Barbara Whitehead, and Virginia Bryer; 3 brothers Norman Smith, Albert Smith, and Sheldon Smith; daughter Narda Wade Allen, son Kent F. Wade, granddaughter Amanda Collazo and 2 great-grandsons David Collazo Jr and Andrew Joel Collazo; plus nieces and nephews.
Irene made roots in Connecticut for the past 57 years residing in Derby, Ansonia, Seymour and Shelton. She was a gentle, kind and generous lady whose beautiful blue eyes twinkled when she smiled. Besides family and friends, she will leave her memory with those whose lives she touched throughout her 35 years of employment at Woolworth Co.; being a member of the First Congregational Church of Derby; she enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, various needlework, quilting, and baking, contributing these items to her church fairs and making sure all her family received gifts of her creations. Together with her husband, they would always welcome and help out the children within the community and at their apartment complex.
A memorial service will be held 3 pm. Saturday January 19, 2019 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St, Bangor with Pastor Mark Arnold of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Exeter officiating. Family and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at The Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St, Bangor following the service.
