Winterport - Irma Elizabeth (Strang) Nelson, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home December 8, 2022. She was born August 17, 1938, in Brewer, the daughter of James and Avis (Russell) Strang, of Brewer.
Irma Elizabeth was proud to be a Witch, a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1956. For decades she worked in the banking industry, most notably as a Loan Officer for Key Bank as well as Norstar Bank. She built many customer relations over the years and would always light up when they'd stop to say hello years later.
Winterport was home, which she loved dearly, but her happy place was definitely Florida where she frequently visited for much of her adult life and escaped Maine winters for over a decade.
She was an avid reader, usually while listening to her beloved Red Sox and Patriots in the background.
Her family was forever in awe at the many treasured friendships she maintained, some since childhood. Irma Elizabeth had a special bond with her daughter, Darleen that went beyond the mother-daughter relationship where they shared a precious companionship that was cherished by both.
She is survived by her brother, James Strang and his wife, Sam; daughter, Darleen Nelson and her husband, Rick Ellis; son, Kevin Nelson and his wife, Kathleen Cahill; granddaughter, Ashley Sinclair; daughter-in-law, Cheryle Nelson; grandsons, Caleb and Collin Nelson; a special great-granddaughter, Chloe Sinclair, a very special sister-in-law, Rita Nelson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leroy Nelson Sr.; her son, Lee Nelson; her beloved brother-in-law, Donald Nelson; her sister-in-law, Vianna Higgins and her husband, Leon; and her best friend, Marlene McLaughlin Apprich.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 12-1:30 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2022, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held immediately after. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately following the service, Friday.
