Ivan Porter McPike, 74, passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 31, 1948 in Calais the son of John R. and L. Avis (Williams) McPike.

Ivan graduated from the Hampden Academy in the Class of 1966. He went on to serve his country in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict. After college, he purchased with longtime friend, Rudi Eyerer, the Bangor Merrifield Office Supply which they operated for several years until they sold. He then purchased Fitzco Farm Center which was later named Maine Salt. In 2010, Ivan was very proud that his son Ryan started into ownership of this business and is now operating it completely. It was in Ivan’s blood to commit to public service. Ivan is the current Council Chair of the Town of Hampden which is now his second term. He also served for 10 years on the RSU22 School Board. In 1982-83 he received the Outstanding Young Man of the year award by the Bangor Jayccees. He had a love for fly fishing with great memories of Atlantic Salmon fishing along the Marimachi River and East Outlet of the Kennebec River. He enjoyed four wheeling and bird hunting. He loved his times Downeast at the family camps in West Musquash and Oxbrook Lake with his buddies. Ivan had a passion to help others and to make a difference and will be dearly missed.
