Corea - Jack E. Holmes, 85, died March 16, 2020, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born on August 9, 1934, in Grand Lake Stream, the son of Gerald E. and Vivian F. (Finley) Holmes.
Jack graduated from Lee Academy in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956 during the Korean conflict. Jack attended the University of Maine from 1957-1958, leaving to play professional baseball in the Pittsburg Pirates organization.
He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1964 with a Bachelor’s degree. Jack spent his career in the property-casualty insurance field, retiring in 1995 as chairman, president and chief executive officer of Lumber Insurance Group, Framingham, MA.
In 1997, he returned to Maine and built his house on the Island at Branch Lake in Ellsworth. He was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in August of 2014.
Jack is survived by his wife, Kathleen (O’Hara) Holmes; step-son, Gary Goldman; and step-grandchildren, Molly and Gabriel Goldman.
He married Judith Ann Brest in 1957, who died on July 25, 1989. He is survived by his children, Jody H. Dion and Jill H. Nagle; and grandchildren, Peter, Andrew, and Emily Nagle, Mathew, Justin, McKenzie, and Jordan Dion.
Jack married Jan E. Baillargeon in 1990, who died July 5, 2005. He is survived by his step-children, Kathy Gifford, and Steve Baillargeon; and step-grandchildren, Amanda Martin, Tyler Gifford, Molly Worcester and Lucas Baillargeon; step-great grandson, Chase Martin.
