Jacqueline (Springer) Sprague, 92, passed away peacefully after a long illness on May 5, 2020, in Spring, Texas.
Jackie was born January 15, 1928, to Paul and Morita (Pickard) Springer in Bangor, Maine. She graduated from Bangor High School and the University of Maine in Orono where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She married Richard S. Sprague of Bangor and began working at New England Medical Center in Boston while Dick earned his PhD at Boston University. They returned to Orono where she worked as a nurse and later in life taught Nursing at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after earning her Master’s degree from the University of Maine.
She was a life-long member of All Souls Congregational Church in Bangor, where she also served as a Deacon. She enjoyed being with friends, was a member of PEO, and the Junior League. In 1983 they moved to Ormond Beach, Florida where they resided near her sister Joanne and her husband Chuck Perry. The four had been life-long friends since high school. She taught nursing at Bethune Cookman University until she retired. She continued with PEO, was actively involved with Habitat for Humanity and loved playing golf. In 2016 she moved to Spring, Texas to live with her daughter Carrie Todd and husband Tim.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Dr. Richard S. Sprague, and her sister Diana Gordon. She is survived by her son Dr. Richard S. Sprague, Jr. and wife Marnie, daughter Mary Jones and husband Donny, daughter Carrie Todd and husband Tim; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Joanne Perry of Bethesda, MD and her brother William Springer and wife Christine of Alexandria, VA.
Funeral services will be announced in the summer. She will be interred next to her husband Dick at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
