James Bennett

James “Jim” Vernal Bennett Jr., passed away peacefully on his 82nd birthday surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 3, 1933, in Bangor the son of James V. Sr. and Hilda (Aird) Bennett.

Jim served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He then returned to Maine and worked for many years as an aircraft technician with the Maine Air National Guard. He was a Past Master of the Mystic Lodge #65 A. F. & A. M. of Hampden and the Anah Shriners as a columnist and photographer for the Anah Campers. Jim was a fish warden for the Town of Hampden for many years, a lifetime member of the Whitcomb-Baker VFW Post #4633 of Hampden, and a member of the Hampden Snowmobile Club. He had a lifetime of interests to include, the Biggest Buck of Maine Club, Registered Maine Guide, Boy Scout Leader, Hunter safety Course Instructor, Sportsman Alliance of Maine, Penobscot Conservation Club, Rescue Diver for Emergency Services throughout Eastern Maine, Scuba Diving Instructor, and was a Volunteer for the Frankfort Fire Department. His family loved him dearly and his core values were integrity, hard work, tough love and good humor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gloria (Otis) Bennett; children; Douglas Bennett and wife Marlys, of Topeka, KS, Joseph Bennett Sr. and wife Penny, Saudi Arabia, Angela Meisler and husband Adam, Hampden; grandchildren, Ashley, Julie, Christine, Kelly, Joseph Jr., Phillip, Rebekah, Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Madison, Kinsley, Avery, Scarlett, Emerson and Kyser, and many other relatives and friends. Jim was predeceased by two sons, Jeffrey and Timothy.

A graveside memorial service will be held 1:30 PM, Saturday, November 7, at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Relatives and friends are invited to a time of conversation and refreshments at the family home, 26 Cottage Street, Hampden, following the service.
