HUDSON – James E. “Jim” Blanchard, 76, passed away September 6, 2024, peacefully in his home surrounded by family, after a brief illness. He was born October 24, 1947, in Bangor, the son of Maurice D. and Phyllis M. (White) Blanchard.
Jim attended Hermon High School. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1966-1975, serving in Vietnam for 18 months and then, in Korea for 13 months. During his years of service, Jim married the love of his life, Judith M. Stevenson. They celebrated 56 years of marriage. Jim dedicated 37 years as a locomotive engineer, retiring in 2007. Jim enjoyed playing golf, camping, hunting, and fishing; always aiming for and achieving first place and never hiding his competitive nature.
In addition to his wife, Judith, Jim is survived by his three daughters, Michelle Reardon and Edward, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Tracy Blazina and her husband, Tom, of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Nicole Richards, of Orono, Maine; he was a proud Papa of seven grandchildren, Melissa Thomas, Adam Reardon, Rhett Blazina, Jordan Emerson, Daniel Reardon, Katelyn Richards and Morgan Reardon; nine great-grandchildren, four siblings, Patty Harnden and her husband, Scott, of Hermon, Richard Blanchard and his wife, Patty, of Carmel, Maurice Blanchard and his wife, Nancy, of Kenduskeag, and Linda Dube and her husband, Phil, of Hermon; several nieces, nephews cousins and his constant shadow and special dog, Molly, or “Momo”. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Shawn Richards; grandson by marriage, Brandon Thomas and dear friend, Steve Pelletier.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 4–6p.m., Monday, September 16, 2024, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17. Committal prayers with military honors will be conducted in Kenduskeag Village Cemetery, Kenduskeag immediately following the service.
