James Dence

James E. Dence, 82, died peacefully February 26, 2022, at his home in Great Pond. He was born March 16, 1939, in Johnstown, New York, the son of Raymond and Celia (Hess) Dence.

Jim attended Northville High School and joined the Navy in 1956. In 1958 he married the love of his life Janice Elaine Ellsworth and she joined him on his adventure in the Navy for the next 28 years. After retiring from the service, they settled in Great Pond and continued their astonishing life together. Jim worked at Dow Pines military recreational facility and was a selectman for Great Pond until he retired again. In March 2021, Jim and Jan celebrated 63 years of wonderful marriage.

Surviving in addition to his wife Janice Dence, are his sons Michael and his wife Anita, Bradly, and his wife Dale. His brother John Dence and sister Dorothy (Dence) Scherenberger, his granddaughter Jennifer Renda and grandsons Corey Dence, Christopher Dence, Alex Dence, Gabe Dence, John Michael Rosas, and Kyle Rosas. Jim has seventeen great grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his daughter Darla Ann Dence.
