Corinth – J. Wesley "Wes" Haney, 98, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024, at the Veterans' Home in Bangor. He was born November 20, 1925, in Houlton, ME, the son of Lyman and Mary (Tidd) Haney. He married his high school sweetheart, Edith, on November 22, 1943. They celebrated 80 years of marriage together.
Wes served in the United States Navy during WWII. They moved to Massachusetts for a number of years, and he worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) as a welder. They moved back to Maine in 1976 and settled in Corinth. He worked for Sargents in Stillwater until he retired.
Wes loved the outdoors, loved to hunt, and belonged to the Big Bucks Club. He took pride in his large vegetable gardens and would take some of the produce to the Corinthian Manor for the seniors to enjoy.
He received The Boston Post Cane as the Oldest Resident of Corinth in 2024 at 98 years of age. It had been 20 years since a man had received this award.
Surviving is his wife, Edith (Allen); daughters, Anne Martin, Ellen Martin, and Susan Dugay; sons, Jim, Daniel, Joseph, Patrick, John and Bill; sisters-in-law, Polly Smith, Lucy Strout, Eleanor Bickmore and Priscilla Allen; twenty-eight grandchildren; sixty-six great-grandchildren; thirty great-great-grandchildren, and four great great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul, Alexander and Philip; sisters, Mary Allen, Therese Henderson, Margaret Simonds and Marie Haney; son, Stephen; grandsons, Carl Huber and Kyle Martin.

Relatives and friends may call from 5-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2024, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments following the Mass in the Parish Hall of St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be in St. Benedict's Cemetery, Benedicta, ME.
