James R. Hosmer, 72, passed away October 15, 2013 at his residence. He was born July 12, 1941, in York, the son of Harold and Mary (Pigeon) Hosmer. James grew up in Kittery and graduated from the Robert W. Traip Academy in 1959. He attended the University of Maine, Orono and in the early sixties went to work at the Maine Dept. of Transportation as a construction engineer. James chose to never retire, he loved his job, the people he worked with and in 2012 was awarded Employee of the Month which he was very proud of. He had numerous hobbies such as, hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, gardening and he was a member of the Veazie Salmon Club. James also was interested in the study of mushrooms and took several courses on them. His love of nature helped sustain him through his illness. He and his wife traveled much of the U.S. including Hawaii and had been to New Zealand as well. He will be sadly missed by his wife Anne Hosmer of Veazie, his son Scott Hosmer and his companion Shanna Goodine of Hampden, his daughter Susan Nwosu, a stepson Michael Gross and his wife Colleen of Verona Island, his stepdaughter Heather Strang and her husband Jay of Bangor, and eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother Stephen Hosmer and his wife Nancy of Arizona, four nieces and nephews, and special friends Louise and Stanley Smith. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Thomas Hosmer. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 PM Friday October 18, 2013 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith,55 South Main St. where services will be held 10 AM Saturday.
